Audition for a show
FamiliesCast & crew
Fill in an audition form, change your time if you need to, and accept a role when you're cast.
When a company holds auditions, they share a link to an audition form. You don't need a theCallboard account to fill it in. A parent or guardian can sign up a performer, and one family can sign up several kids.
Fill in the form
- Open the audition link from the company. It's also on the show's public page if they have one.
- Read What to prepare at the top. It may have sides, music or videos to download.
- Fill in the form, then select Submit audition.
Depending on the audition, the form may ask:
- Who's filling this out? Choose I'm the performer or I'm family signing up a performer. Under 13? A parent or guardian signs you up.
- About you or About the performer: name, email, phone and pronouns.
- Audition: pick a time, or choose in person or digital.
- Your digital audition: upload a file (up to 50 MB) or paste a link from YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive or Dropbox. Make sure anyone with the link can view it.
- Roles you'd like to be considered for, and the company's own questions.
- Conflicts: see below.
- Headshot and résumé: a headshot can be JPG, PNG or WebP. A résumé can be a PDF or an image. Each can be up to 10 MB.
If you already have an account
Sign in at on.theCallboard.app first, then open the audition link. Under Who's auditioning?, choose Me, one of your children, or Someone else. Your name, email and pronouns fill in from your account, and your child's details fill in from theirs. You can change anything before you submit.
Add your conflicts
Add each day you can't make during rehearsals and performances. No conflicts? Leave this empty.
- Select Add a conflict.
- Pick the date.
- Choose All day, Morning, Afternoon, Evening or Set times. For Set times, enter when it starts and ends.
- Add a note if it helps, like "Dentist".
Each new conflict starts on the day after the last one, so a run of days is quick to add.
Sign up more than one child
When the form allows family sign-ups, select Sign up another performer after you submit. Your family contact and conflicts carry into the next form, and you can change them.
Change your time or cancel
You'll get a confirmation email with your audition time and what to prepare. A parent or family contact gets one too.
To make a change, open the link in that email:
- To pick a new time, choose it under Change your time, then select Save new time.
- If you can't make it, select Cancel my audition. This frees your time for someone else.
If you're offered a role
The company sends callbacks, role offers and "thank you" emails after they decide. If you're cast, your email has a link to answer.
- Open the link in your offer email.
- Select Accept the role. You can add a note for the production team first. Or select Decline, then Decline the offer.
- Next, join the company on theCallboard. Select Join and the show's name, then create an account or sign in with the email the offer went to.
For a child under 13, a parent or guardian accepts for them. They select Accept for and the child's name. The child doesn't need a login of their own.
Your audition details come with you
When you join, theCallboard shows From your audition on your welcome page. It lists what you sent: the headshot, pronouns, conflicts and the family contact. Untick anything you don't want, then select Looks right — use these. Or select Skip.
Your conflicts go on the show's Conflicts page, and the family contact can become an emergency contact. You don't have to type it all again.
