Upload a script and break it down with ScriptWizard
Managers
Add your script as a PDF, let ScriptWizard build the cast list and French scenes, then call rehearsals by scene.
Upload your script once and the whole company can read it and keep notes in it. ScriptWizard can then read the script for you and build a cast list, a scene list and a who's-in-what chart. You use those to call exactly the people each scene needs.
Upload the script
Uploading is done on the web.
- Open your show at on.theCallboard.app and choose Script in the menu.
- Select Upload script.
- Choose your PDF. It can be up to 50 MB.
- Check the Title, then select Upload script.
Only PDFs work. If your script is a Word or Pages file, export it as a PDF first.
If the script is a scan, theCallboard reads its pages in the background after you upload. Notes can snap to words as each page is done.
Upload a new version
Rewrites happen. When you get new pages:
- On the Script page, open the version menu at the top (it shows Version 1, for example).
- Choose Upload new version… and pick the new PDF.
The new upload becomes the current version. Older versions stay in the list. When people open the new version, theCallboard offers to bring their cues and notes over. It matches them to the same words, even where the pages have shifted.
To go back to an older version, pick it from the list and select Make this the current version.
Break it down with ScriptWizard
- On the Script page, select ScriptWizard at the top.
- Select Analyze script.
It takes a minute or two, and you can leave the page while it works. When it's done, you get these tabs:
- Cast list: every character, with their lines and pages.
- Scenes: each scene with its pages and who's in it. Switch between As written and French scenes. A new French scene starts each time someone enters or exits.
- Who's in what: a chart of characters and scenes. ● means they speak. ○ means they're on stage but silent.
- Songs: shown for musicals.
Select a page number in a scene to jump to that page in the script.
Fix the breakdown
- Characters: on Cast list, use Rename, Merge (for one character split in two) or Remove.
- French scenes: on Scenes, with French scenes showing, select Edit on a scene. You can change its label, its first and last page, its summary, and who speaks or is silent. You can also delete it.
- Export CSV downloads the chart for a spreadsheet.
Analyze again starts over. It uses another analysis and replaces your edits, but it keeps who plays whom.
Set who plays whom
On Cast list, use the menu under Played by next to each character. Choose a person from your company. Add more than one person if a role is shared or understudied.
Call rehearsals by scene
Once people are cast, you can build a call from scenes:
- Add or edit a call on the schedule.
- Open Scenes and tick the scenes you're rehearsing.
Everyone cast in those scenes is added to the call. If nobody plays a character yet, you'll see a reminder to set it in ScriptWizard. This works in the iPhone and Android apps too. See Build the rehearsal schedule.
How many analyses you have
Under ScriptWizard you'll see how many analyses your organization has left this month. Every show in the organization shares them, and they reset on the 1st.
Owners and admins can select Need more? to buy 3 more for $2.00, or use their own AI key in the organization's Settings. Everyone else sees who to ask.
