Read the script and keep notes

Everyone

Read the script on any device, and add cues, blocking, notes and highlights, privately or shared.

Once your stage manager uploads the script, everyone in the company can read it in theCallboard. You can also mark it up like your own copy: cues, blocking, notes and highlights.

Open the script

  • On the web: open your show at on.theCallboard.app and choose Script in the menu.
  • On iPhone and Android: open the show and tap Script.

No script yet? Your stage manager hasn't uploaded it. It shows up as soon as they do.

On the web, use the arrows or type a page number to move around. You can zoom, choose Pages or Scroll, invert the colors for a dark page, and go full screen. On a phone, the view options include One page at a time, Continuous scroll and Dark page.

Add a cue, blocking or a note

There are three kinds of markup:

  • Cues: things that get called, like lighting, sound, fly, props or a quick change.
  • Blocking: where actors move and when.
  • Notes: a thought, comment or question.

On the web:

  1. Select Markup and pick a kind.
  2. Click the word where it happens, or drag across a passage.
  3. Type your note and select Add.
  4. Select Done when you've finished adding.

On a phone, tap Add, pick a kind, then tap the line where it goes or drag across a passage.

New cues get the next cue number on their own. You can type over it.

Highlight lines

Highlights are just for you. On the web, open Markup and pick a color under Highlight, then drag across the lines. On a phone, tap Add, then Highlight lines.

Who sees your notes

Your notes are private unless you share them. When you can share one, you'll see a Share with box under it.

  • Managers can share anything. Shared blocking and notes go to the whole company.
  • People in a department can share their own kind of cue. For example, someone in sound can share sound cues with the sound department.

If you can't share a kind of note, it says Only you can see this.

Edit or delete a note

  • On the web: click the note to open it, then choose Edit, Hide or Delete. Hide takes it off the page without deleting it.
  • On iPhone and Android: press and hold a note, then choose Edit or Delete.

You can edit only your own notes. Managers can also delete notes that are shared.

See every note on a page

On the web, select Cues & notes. You'll see the notes for each page. Filter by Mine or Shared with me, and by kind. Select a note to jump to it. Under Settings, stage managers choose how cues are numbered for the show.

On a phone, tap the list button to see the notes on the page you're on.

When a new version comes in

When your stage manager uploads a new version, theCallboard offers to bring your cues and notes over. Select Bring them over. They're matched to the same words, so it doesn't matter if the pages have shifted. Anything it isn't sure about is marked Check placement. Look at it, then select Looks right.
