Chat with your company
Everyone
Message your whole show or one person, mute or archive conversations, and understand who can see what.
Every show has its own chat. There's one group conversation for the whole company, and you can message anyone on the show directly. Nobody needs your phone number.
For news that everyone must see, stage managers use announcements instead. Announcements can't be replied to.
Open chat
- On the web: open a show at on.theCallboard.app and click Chat. Or click Chat under My Callboard to see all your shows, with unread counts.
- On iPhone and Android: tap the Chat tab.
The group conversation is called Everyone in followed by the show's name.
Message one person
- Click New message.
- Search for them under Find someone on the show, then click their name.
- Type your message and press Enter (or click the send button). Use Shift+Enter for a new line.
Edit, remove or report a message
On the web, hover over a message to see its buttons. On a phone, press and hold the message.
- Edit changes one of your own messages.
- Remove takes it down for everyone. You can remove your own. Managers can also remove messages in the group chat.
- Report flags someone else's message.
Mute, archive or delete a conversation
These only change your own view. Everyone else keeps theirs.
- Mute: no notifications from it. New messages still show up in the list.
- Archive: moves it off your list until someone writes again. Find it under Archived.
- Delete for me: clears its messages for you only. New messages still show up.
On the web, the buttons are next to each conversation in the list. On iPhone, swipe left on a conversation. On Android, press and hold it. On the phone apps, you can mute for a set time or until you unmute.
Block someone
Open your conversation with them and choose Block. You won't see their messages, neither of you can message the other, and they aren't told. You can unblock them any time from Blocked people, under Privacy in your account.
Video calls
In a direct conversation, click Video call, check Who's invited, then click Start the call. Managers can start a call for everyone from the group chat. A Join button appears in the conversation while the call is on.
Who can see your messages
- The group chat: everyone on the show. Managers can remove messages there and can see edits and removed messages.
- Messages with a stage manager or director: just the two of you.
- Messages between cast and crew: private to the two of you, unless the show turns on monitoring. Then managers can see them, and the conversation shows a notice that says so.
- Parents and guardians can read their children's conversations.
If peer messaging is off for a show, cast and crew can only message the stage managers and directors.
Children under 13
Children under 13 can always message the show's stage managers and directors. Anyone else needs a parent's OK first. If you try to message a child, you'll be asked whether to send the parent a request. One-to-one video calls with a child are only ever with another child, and both parents must agree. Teens with their own login follow the same rules as adults.
Parents set this up in Add your children and manage their access.
For managers: chat settings
In the show's Settings, under Chat:
- Allow peer messaging lets cast and crew message each other directly.
- Managers can see peer messages turns on monitoring. Conversations already started stay private. They close (read-only) and the next message starts a new, monitored conversation.
These change as soon as you tick them.
